  3. Situation: While performing contingency operations, local
  4. population has informed your unit of a U.S. soldier being 
  5. held by insurgent forces at grid WN172773. 
  6.  
  7. ROE: Positively identify all targets in compound due to 
  8. presence of U.S. prisoner.
  9.  
  10. Mission: First squad extract POW at enemy field HQ, grid 
  11. WN172773. 
  12.  
  13. Enemy: One squad-sized element of insurgent forces with 
  14. light weapons but no night vision devices.
  15.  
  16. Troops: One infantry squad of the 4th Battalion, 31st 
  17. Infantry Regiment, without advanced marksmanship team or 
  18. grenadier support.
  19.  
  20. Terrain: HQ is located in a lightly forested valley.  HQ 
  21. is well-lit area consisting of 2-4 frame constructed one
  22. -story wooden buildings.  Prisoner is expected to be held 
  23. in the center of the compound.

  26. DEFENSE
  27.  
  28. Situation: While performing contingency operations, your 
  29. unit captured an officer who will be transported to
  30. higher headquarters.  
  31.  
  32. ROE: Positively identify targets in compound due to the 
  33. presence of the EPW.
  34.  
  35. Mission: Secure EPW holding area at grid WN172773 until 
  36. transport arrives. Remember, under the laws of land
  37. warfare you are responsible for safeguarding the EPW.  
  38. The EPW is secured in a holding cell in the center of
  39. the compound.
  40.  
  41. Enemy: Infantry team without advanced marksmanship team 
  42. or grenadier support. The hostile force can be expected 
  43. to attempt to recover the EPW at any cost.
  44.  
  45. Troops: One infantry squad of the 2nd Battalion, 22nd 
  46. Infantry Regiment, without advanced marksmanship team
  47. or grenadier support.

  49. Terrain: Field HQ is located in a lightly forested 
  50. valley.
